The TWA Flight Center, a 1962 Eero Saarinen masterpiece of jet-age architecture, has been preserved and reopened as the lobby of the on-site TWA Hotel.

  2. 02

JFK is really six independent terminals wearing a single name — each historically built and operated by different airlines, which explains the very different feel between them.

  3. 03

The AirTrain JFK connects all terminals to the New York City Subway (Jamaica and Howard Beach) and to the LIRR commuter rail into Penn Station.

Pros

The AirTrain links the terminals and connects you to the subway and rail into Manhattan.

Cons

The experience swings wildly by terminal, and some feel dated and cramped.

JFK is really several airports wearing one name, and your day hinges on which terminal you land in. I found the staff a bit brusque and one terminal noticeably tired compared to another I'd used before. The AirTrain is handy for getting around and into the city, which softened the rough edges.
